Warm tributes were paid to a former Ballina Municipal District engineer at last week’s monthly area meeting. Noel Burke, Ballyvary, passed away earlier this month after an illness.

Relay for Life is a global event celebrating and remembering those who have and are fighting cancer. The third Relay for Life event in Mayo will take place on May 17 and 18 at The Fairgreen, Westport.

Mayo County Council is to push for funding to complete a road project that has been mooted for over two decades.

The designation was included as an objective of the Mayo County Development Plan.

A West Mayo councillor said the road between Louisburgh and Westport is now among the worst in the county. Cllr Chris Maxwell told the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council that damage is being caused to vehicles.
