Actor with Mayo roots tipped for an Oscar Irish actor Andrew Scott is being hotly tipped for Oscar success for his stellar performance in Elsinore.
Directed by Simon Stone and written by Pride screenwriter Stephen Beresford, Elsinore has already won the International People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Scott’s performance has also drawn strong reviews and generated awards-season buzz ahead of the film’s release.
The biographical drama follows Scottish actor Ian Charleson in the final months of his life as he prepares to play Hamlet at London’s National Theatre while seriously ill with Aids. Charleston was the star of films including Chariots of Fire and Gandhi.
Born in Dublin, Scott’s Dad Jim is a proud Westport man. The 49-year-old star of stage and screen got in on Mayo’s All-Ireland celebrations when he was pictured with Sam Maguire in the wake of the county’s triumph.
The actor has achieved widespread acclaims for roles such as Jim Moriarty in Sherlock, the beloved "Hot Priest" in Fleabag, and his tender portrayal of Gethin in the historical comedy-drama film Pride.
