South Sligo village to host St Patrick's Festival

Ultan Conlon has been developing a considerable reputation for himself, both on the national and international stage.

The south Sligo village of Cloonacool plays host to its first Heritage Weekend in the coming days.

The event is being run to coincide with the upcoming St Patrick’s Day Bank Holiday and promises a feast of entertainment for locals and visitors alike.

Fiona Brennan, Chairperson of Cloonacool Community, says of the weekend: “We are just delighted to be celebrating St Patrick’s Weekend with family and friends. We have some lovely events lined up and as always, we are so proud of our village and our local heritage.”

Cloonacool has a very busy Community Centre facility but, like all facilities, they have to keep the bills paid. This year, the committee have also organised the resurfacing of their car park and that will be an extra demand for them in the coming weeks.

“All our events are fundraising events that will be supporting the upkeep of our community Centre here in the village of Cloonacool," explained Fiona. "So, we are urging people to come out and support or efforts.”

Proceedings kick off on Thursday evening, March 13, with a live music concert featuring Ultan Conlon. Ultan has been developing a considerable reputation for himself, both on the national and international stage. Playing with his band, he will entertain his audience with both singing and songwriting skills. Conlon is also lauded in music circles for his excellent guitar playing.

The Parents' Association at St Michael’s NS in the village is hosting a Heritage Table Quiz on Friday, March 14. This will be a fun event promising a few laughs and some great prizes. Tables of four cost €40.

On Saturday, March 15, Cloonacool will see the welcome return of Stuart Moyles and his band to play a dance at the hall in the Community Centre. Stuart is a great favourite among the social dancing fraternity and a large crowd is expected for this event.

All events in the Cloonacool Heritage Weekend calendar may be booked through Eventbrite or in person at the local Mill Community Café this coming weekend or by text to 087-2512030. In addition to this, all events will have full bar facilities over the weekend.
