NoCrows will appear at Ballina Arts Centre on Friday, January 23rd, just ahead of a trip to Luxembourg to record their highly anticipated new album.
The dynamic, Sligo-based, folk-orchestra are renowned for their unique fusion of genres and electrifying live shows. Formed in 2005, their diverse sound and growing catalogue of original material draw from Irish traditional, Latin rumba, jazz, classical, and Balkan influences.
Their performances take the audience from delicate Irish airs to gypsy mayhem, and they have proven a major hit at Glastonbury Festival, Dranouter Festival, and many others.
The band’s sound is driven by the distinct compositional voices and instrumental virtuosity of all six members. They include Steve Wickham (fiddle), Felip Carbonell (guitar), Ray Cohen (fiddle & guitar) and Anna Houston (Chelo & Mandolin), along with Oleg Ponomarev, on Violin and Eddie Lee on Double Bass.
Their collaborative spirit ensures a constantly evolving repertoire. As Eddie Lee notes, ‘we always challenge and inspire one another, for example, Oleg is one of those exciting musicians I used to go and hear in concert before getting the chance to work with him. His gypsy and Jazz-influenced tunes have brought a new and exciting dimension to our work.’
This appearance is part of a Tour showcasing some of the new material that will be recorded on the album.
Tickets are available online or from the Box Office on 086 73593.
