Police investigating Co Tyrone murder urge public to avoid speculation

Police investigating the suspected murder of a man in Co Tyrone have urged people to avoid speculating about the incident, stating there is no ongoing risk to the public.
A male was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after the man was found dead next to a seriously injured young girl in Dungannon.
The girl remains in critical condition in the children’s hospital in Belfast following the incident at a house in the Lisnahull Road area of the town.
A woman, who was also in the house at the time and sustained non-life threatening injuries, has been released from hospital.
Detectives from the PSNI’s major investigation team are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Detective Chief Inspector Robinson said: “The body of a man was discovered inside a home on the Lisnahull Road at around 11am yesterday, Saturday 29th August.
“The child remains in a critical condition at this time while the woman has been released from hospital.
“The cause of the man’s death has not yet been formally established and post-mortem examinations will take place in due course.
“A male, who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, remains in custody.
“As such, it would be inappropriate to comment further and I would ask that the public avoid speculation until we can provide further updates.
“However, I want to reassure the public that we do not believe that there is any ongoing risk and at this stage we are not seeking anyone else in relation to the deaths.
“Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of those involved.
“Anyone with information which could assist our detectives with their investigation should contact us on 101, quoting reference 564 of 29/08/26.
“Relevant photos and footage, including CCTV, mobile phone or dash cam footage, can also be shared with police through the major incident public portal.”
On Saturday, a terraced house in the estate was sealed off, with a number of officers and police cars in the area.
A forensic officer, dressed in a white suit, was seen at the property with an evidence bag.
