Mayo runner stars at Sydney Marathon
Fiona Naughton was the first Irish woman to cross the line at the Sydney Marathon on Sunday.
There has been a wonderful performance by a Mayo woman at today’s Sydney Marathon in Australia.
Castlebar native Fiona Naughton crossed the line as the first Irish woman in a highly impressive time of two hours 47 minutes. That also placed her as the 30th overall out of the 17,049 women who started what is one of the world’s Marathon Majors.
Fiona is resident in Sydney and her breakthrough on Sunday morning follows on the previous triumphs of Belmullet native Sinead Diver who has represented Australia in the marathon distance, including at the Tokyo Olympics.
