Tributes following the death of much-loved Mayo postman

There have been warm tributes to a retired postman who was a hugely popular figure in his community.
Mikey Doherty, of Cum, Lahardane, passed away peacefully in the loving care of Cuan Chaitríona Nursing Home Castlebar.
The former postman and his Honda 50 delivered the mail for 40 years. He was dedicated to his job and his personality endeared him to all who knew him.
Heartfelt tributes have been paid following Mikey’s passing.
Mike was a postman in Lahardane for 40 years and he delivered the mail with delight at Chistmas with cards and parcels coming from USA and England, his Hoda 50 would be well loaded for that week. The next big occasions were Valentine’s Day, Easter and delivering the Headage Cheques in the back end of the year. After all those years he was a psychologist and a great storyteller of times past,” read a message of sympathy.
“Memories of Mikey and his Honda 50 always come to mind when I think of home. He was one of life’s great gentlemen and will be truly missed by all who ever knew him” stated a tribute.
“A gentleman who always had time for a chat, a great postman never forgot the kids with the goodies for them,” said another message of condolence.
Predeceased by his parents Martin and Bridgie (Browne), Mikey will be sadly missed by his only brother Tom, cousins, kind neighbours and many friends.
