COMMUNITY NOTES: BALLYHAUNIS - WESTERN PEOPLE (JANUARY 14 EDITION)

National broadcaster Today FM will be recording in Ballyhaunis all day on January 16th as part of a series on rural towns.

To be broadcast on Today FM’s Weekend Breakfast show, the series is funded by Coimisiún na Meán, the regulator of broadcast and online media, under its Sound and Vision Scheme which aims to encourage broadcasters to cover major issues like immigration and climate change.

“Ballyhaunis is a fabulous place with great positive stories of an inspiring community,” said Mark Linehan, a producer with the station.

Mr Linehan explained his station is “hitting the road over the coming months and putting rural Ireland on the map” by interviewing locals on the radio as well as producing videos to accompany the broadcasts.

“We are visiting small towns and villages to create a strong sense of pride in small, local communities and meet the characters and champions that make our rural communities the best.”

Mr Linehan said Today FM hopes to cover “stories of music, sport, arts and culture, youth, community, enterprise and positive immigration and integration and more”.
