E-scooter over the speed limit on main Mayo road caught and seized
Gardaí seized the e-scooter on the N83 last Friday evening
The Mayo Roads Policing Unit detected and seized an e-scooter driving over the speed limit on a main road in the county.
On Friday evening last, the Garda Unit detected the vehicle travelling at 28km/h on the N83 with a seat attached.
A speed limit of 20 km/h or less applies to e-scooters and seats are prohibited.
They have advised that e-scooter riders must be 18 or older with the age limit increasing from 16 in recent days on October 2. Helmets and high-visibility clothing are strictly mandatory and you cannot carry passengers, transport goods, use a mobile phone, or have a seat attached to the scooter.
“Infractions carry fixed-charge notices,” they said.
“Gardaí can seize non-compliant or illegally operated scooters. Storage fees to release a detained e-scooter start at an initial €80 plus €30 for each additional day of storage.”
