Mayo man fulfils promise to drink his first ever pint following county's big All-Ireland win

A Mayo man living in Cavan and a lifelong teetotaller has kept a promise that he would take his first pint when Mayo won another All-Ireland Final.
What is more Jim McGovern, originally from Hollymount in south Mayo, drank the pint in a pub owned by a Kerryman!
According to LMFM, Jim was cheered by dozens of locals in M&F’s Bar in Kingscourt, Co Cavan as he downed his first ever pint of Guinness – albeit a pint of Guinness Zero.
Jim, who is the grandfather of Meath GAA player Jordan Morris, agreed to drink the pint if the pubs proprietor, Kerry man Johnny Walsh, replayed the 2026 All-Ireland Final on the big screen in the bar.
Jim, a lifelong pioneer, invited his fellow patrons to donate to Kingscourt Cancer Support charity in lieu of buying him more drinks.
Jim is a huge GAA fan who has followed Mayo all his life but is also very involved in his local Kingscourt Stars club where he has volunteered his time as club chairman as well as a steward and a bus driver for the team.
As to the Mayo win, he told LMFM he was 'euphoric' and hoped to bring the Sam Maguire to some of the graves of old friends who would've loved to have seen the day Mayo finally got the coveted cup.
