Funeral details announced for Mayo boy killed in tragic accident
12-year old Eoin Doyle died following the accident near Ballyhaunis
Funeral details have been announced for a 12-year old Mayo boy who died tragically after a train and a car collided at a level crossing near Ballyhaunis last night.
Eoin Doyle, of Gurrane, Ballyhaunis was a passenger in the car when the accident occurred at a level crossing at Kiltybo near Ballyhaunis. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, a male in his late 40s, was taken from the scene by ambulance for hospital treatment. His injuries are not life-threatening.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident at the user-operated level crossing to come forward.
The train was travelling from Heuston in Dublin to Westport.
The level crossing runs across a secondary road that intersects with the N60, which is situated a short distance away.
The tragedy has stunned the local community. Ballyhaunis GAA has cancelled training sessions and all scheduled matches until further notice, as a mark of respect to Eoin and his family.
Eoin is deeply regretted by his heartbroken parents Declan and Elaine (née Corcoran) and his twin sister Saoirse, step-brother Conor, grandparents Pat and Marguerite Doyle and Ger and Mary Corcoran, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives & friends.
Reposal takes place at Donnellan’s Funeral Home, Clare Street, Ballyhaunis on Monday evening from 5pm until 7pm.
Funeral will arrive to St. Patrick’s Church, Cloonfad on Tuesday for Funeral Mass at 12 noon, followed by burial in Ballyhaunis Cemetery.
