Date confirmed for Mayo Minor Injury Unit to be up and running

Senator Mark Duffy has welcomed the confirmation by the HSE that the Mayo Minor Injury Unit is due to be operational by the end of October this year.

The new unit will be based on Mercy Rd, Ballina and will treat minor, non-life-threatening injuries such as broken bones, sprains, dislocations, minor burns, and cuts.

The service will be delivered by consultants, radiographers and specialist nursing staff and will operate seven days per week. The injury unit team will provide treatment such as x-rays, plaster casts, and wound care at the North Mayo location.

“This is hugely positive news for Ballina and the North Mayo region. It will relieve pressure on the Emergency Department at MUH and ensure that those with minor injuries have access to timely, high-quality care closer to home. Investing in facilities like the Mayo Minor Injury Unit in Ballina means we are strengthening local healthcare infrastructure across the county which means better services and ultimately better outcomes for patients.”

The information was confirmed to Senator Mark Duffy by HSE Officials this afternoon.
