Mayo band making national TV debut this evening

An Irish folk band trio from Ballyhaunis are set to make their national tv debut this evening.
Mac Henry and The Dog Roses will make their debut TV performance on Virgin Media One today, September 1. The band will feature on the Six O’Clock Show, at approximately 6:50 pm.
The band, who released their debut album ‘After the Rain’ in March of this year, consists of lead singer/songwriter Ethan Henry, piano & harp player Elizabeth Burcovschi, and violin player Victoria Burcovschi.
The band gained recognition after winning a national singing competition with their original song ‘Lost in Space’. Ethan mainly focuses on writing music that tackles real-world problems that resonate with people. This particular song explores themes of loneliness, loss, emotional struggle, and identity search.
Ethan said ‘Lost in Space’ was written about someone he knew who was suffering from dementia. He explained that writing this song was some kind of therapy to him and hopes to help anyone else who might feel the same way.
A lot of their songs revolve around relationships and the feelings of fear, despair, and uncertainty that come along with them. The band’s main goal is to write and perform music with meaning, and hope that listeners will feel less alone.
This summer, the trio have travelled all over the country playing in festivals and fairs. They have performed at Cork Trad & Folk Festival, Athlone River Fest, the local Ballina Salmon Festival, and many more. Many of the band’s gigs are in aid of local charities, such as a recent concert for Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.
The band is all about embracing Irish culture and heritage through music. The members are very proud of where they come from and wish to express that throughout their songs. Ethan emphasises how much their hometown and Co Mayo ‘really has been the basis of our whole band’ and ‘we owe a lot to where we are from’.
The trio’s music is available on Spotify, as well as on YouTube where they post music videos filmed in the midst of local Irish heritage.
