New bus stops for Mayo locations
Bus stops have been reinstated at the locations.
There is positive news for two Mayo communities as bus stops have been reinstated to the Citylink service to Galway.
Breaffy will be added to the service from Monday, September 7, and Straide will be added to the route from Monday, December 7, subject to the completion of road improvement works in the area.
Residents had previously been impacted by the axing of Bus Eireann’s Route 52 service.
The news has been welcomed by local TDs.
“Good news for Straide and Breaffy. I’ve received confirmation that Citylink has been approved to reinstate both stops on the 430 Ballina–Galway route.
“This issue was raised with me repeatedly following the replacement of Bus Eireann Route 52, and I’ve worked closely with Citylink and the NTA to get it resolved.
“Huge credit to Jimmy Mulroy and the Straide community for making their voices heard, and to councillors Neil Cruise, Donna Sheridan and Ger Deere, along with Senator Mark Duffy, for their advocacy and working with me on this.
“I now look forward to seeing both stops back in operation as quickly as possible, restoring this vital transport link for the local community,” said Minister Alan Dillon.
“Residents, students, commuters and visitors in Straide and Breaffy and will now benefit from direct access to Citylink's network, providing convenient connections to Ballina, Claremorris, Tuam, and Galway City, as well as onward links to destinations across Ireland,” stated Minister Dara Calleary.
