Mayo supermarket car park planning decision appealed
The Mayo County Council decision has been appealed
A decision to retain permission for a staff and customer overflow car park for an Erris supermarket has been appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála.
Mayo County Council previously approved the planning retention on a vacant site adjacent to a supermarket on Main Street, Bangor Erris.
There was one objector to the proposal who cited concerns over noise, dust, safety, privacy and diminishing property value.
They said the car park has made their life ‘unbearable’ and claimed they are often awakened at all hours of the night and morning by cars, vans and trucks parking close to their home.
“There is loud music, people talking and car doors banging as this space is often used by people car pooling,” the submission also claimed.
The local authority initially requested further information on the proposal after deeming it suitable in principle.
The applicant confirmed that surface works would be completed within two weeks of final approval of permission.
The applicant detailed the location of all signage on an amended site layout plan and confirmed the management procedure for the car park.
The store manager will be responsible for opening and closing of the car park, which will be closed via lock and chain outside of opening hours.
Council planners were satisfied with the response and approved planning retention subject to seven conditions. The conditions included certain opening hours for the car park.
The operating hours of the car park shall be between 6.30am to 9.30pm and deviation from these times will only be allowed in exceptional circumstances where prior written agreement with the council has been received.
There were also conditions attached to removal of waste and surface water arising from the development.
However, this decision has now been appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála.
The planning authority is set to rule on the matter by December 23 this year.
