Patsy O'BRIEN +412 = 7,506

Mark DUFFY +203 = 7,109

Three seats are now filled with Alan Dillon and Dara Calleary elected after exceeding the quota.

Dillon's surplus of 1,362 will now be distributed.

1.30pm

A short time ago, Alan Dillon spoke to John Corless ahead of the eighth count.

12.50pm

Hi all, Tom Byrne here taking over from Paul O'Malley - I will be taking you through what looks set to be an eventful afternoon.

We'll have count 8 for you as soon as it's announced. Stay tuned.

12.13pm

Lisa Chambers surplus will more than likely bring Alan Dillon well past the quota. Both are based in Castlebar and Dillon could have a decent surplus to offer party colleagues Mark Duffy and Keira Keogh.

Chambers surplus should also more or less secure Dara Calleary's election and if there is a situation where Calleary has any kind of surplus, that could benefit his fellow Ballina-based candidate Mark Duffy.

But Duffy needs to remain in the race for this to come into play. He currently trails Patsy O'Brien by 188 votes.

Dillon's surplus could be enough to get Calleary elected and therefore Count 9 could be based on Dillon's surplus but if his surplus, plus the yet undistributed surplus of around 150 votes from the already elected Rose Conway-Walsh, is not sufficient to elect Calleary, then someone will need to be eliminated. At the moment, that looks like it will either be Mark Duffy or Patsy O'Brien.

Count 8 awaits.

11.38am

Here is how it looks, IN ORDER. 4 seats to be filled with Rose Conway-Walsh already elected. Count 8 awaits.

Alan DILLON 11,623 (189 to reach quota)

Dara CALLEARY 9,699

Keira KEOGH 7,614

Paul LAWLESS 7,612

Patsy O'BRIEN 7,094

Mark DUFFY 6,906

11.30am

Count 7 is in and it has seen Paul Lawless surge ahead of his contenders for a seat. Alan Dillon has edged closer to election as well.

Dara CALLEARY +507, 9,699

Lisa CHAMBERS +297, 6,709

Alan DILLON +418, 11,623

Mark DUFFY +322, 6,906

Keira KEOGH +112, 7,614

Paul LAWLESS +1,036 7,612

Patsy O'BRIEN +440, 7,094

No candidate has reached the quota. Lisa Chambers has been eliminated following this county and her 6,709 votes will now be distributed.

10.31am

Well, well, well. That count certainly put the cat among the pigeons. Here is how things are looking now IN ORDER for the remaining candidates. Rose Conway-Walsh has been elected and there are four seats left to fill.

Quota: 11,812

Alan DILLON, 11,205

Dara CALLEARY, 9,192

Keira KEOGH 7,502

Patsy O'BRIEN 6,654

Mark DUFFY 6,584

Paul LAWLESS 6,576

Lisa CHAMBERS 6,412

Next will see the distribution of Gerry Murray's 4,091 votes.

10.13am

The first TD has been elected in Mayo after count 6. Rose Conway-Walsh has been elected.

The count has also pulled Paul Lawless well into contention with a transfer of 1,420 votes from Stephen Kerr.

Dara CALLEARY +113, 9,192

Lisa CHAMBERS +96, 6,412

Rose CONWAY-WALSH +546, 11,963

Alan DILLON +197, 11,205

Mark DUFFY +126, 6,584

Keira KEOGH +111, 7,502

Paul LAWLESS +1,420, 6,576

Gerry MURRAY +149, 4,091

Patsy O'BRIEN +523, 6,654

Rose Conway-Walsh has been elected. Her surplus of 151 votes cannot elect the highest continuing candidate so Gerry Murray has been eliminated and his 4,091 votes will now be distributed.

9.47am

Here is a more comprehensive round-up of Saturday, which saw five counts take place.

9.13am

As it stands, Rose Conway-Walsh, Alan Dillon and Dara Calleary are certain to be elected. It's a matter of not if, but when. Keira Keogh is well situated to take a seat and the final seat is a real toss-up.

Although Paul Lawless looks to be in the distance currently, trailing Patsy O'Brien by almost 1,000 votes, there are rumours and murmurs around the TF that the Aontú councillor is set to transfer very strongly from Stephen Kerr. Should Gerry Murray be eliminated next, then the Charlestown-based councillor will surely have a chunk of votes to send down the N17 to Lawless in Knock.

The next two counts will give us a good indication of how things will play out.

9am

And we're off! Again. Paul O'Malley here on the Western People General Election live blog this morning. Returning Officer Ann-Marie Courell has recommenced proceedings and the next count will see the distribution of Stephen Kerr's votes after his elimination following count 5 last night.

Just a reminder, here is how things stand.

Rose CONWAY-WALSH, 11,417

Alan DILLON, 11,008

Dara CALLEARY, 9,079

Keira KEOGH 7,391

Mark DUFFY 6,458

Lisa CHAMBERS 6,316

Patsy O'BRIEN 6,131

Paul LAWLESS 5,156

Gerry MURRAY 3,942

The counts so far have seen the eliminations of Sean Forkin, Gerry Loftus, Joe Daly, Micheál 'Boxty' O Conaill, Chris Maxwell, Martina Jennings and Stephen Kerr.
