At 2.30pm yesterday, the Mayo Mountain Rescue team was tasked by An Garda Síochána to assist a young woman who had fallen on Croagh Patrick. 

The woman had sustained a lower leg injury while descending the mountain and attempted to continue walking, with the aid of her friend. Her condition deteriorated, so she wisely alerted the emergency services.

Their first response team located the casualty at 3.30pm and provided emergency care and treatment. MMRT stretcher party arrived shortly after and stretchered the woman to a waiting ambulance at the foot of the reek for further treatment and transport to MUH.

The mountain rescue team was stood down at 5pm.
