Two Mayo men will be involved in the Dublin Senior Football Championship final after helping their club to victory in Saturday’s semi-final.

Former Ballaghaderreen player Shairoze Akram and former Breaffy goalkeeper John Vahey both now play their football with Castleknock, who advanced to their first Dublin Senior Final in 10 years with victory against Thomas Davis.

Akram scored a point from play to help Castleknock get over the line while Vahey was accurate with his free-taking duties, scoring two two-point frees early on in the game.

There will be some Mayo interest in Sunday’s semi-final between Ballyboden St Endas and Cuala. Former Burrishoole footballer Ryan Baynes has been named among the substitutes for Ballyboden, who are looking to make it two-in-a-row should they advance beyond Cuala, who won the Championship in 2024 under the management of former Mayo footballer and Louisburgh native Austin O’Malley.

O’Malley guided that Cuala team to All-Ireland glory and is now on the sidelines with Slaughtneil, who are looking to advance to the Derry Senior Football Championship semi-finals against Ballinderry this weekend.
