HSE is recruiting for several healthcare positions in Mayo

Mayo University Hospital is trying to fill a number of key posts.
Following the termination of the HSE recruitment ban on July 15th last, HSE Forum West has revealed that several new staff have ben appointed at Mayo University Hospital (MUH).
Interim CEO at Saolta University Health Care Group, Ann Cosgrove, told last week's Health Forum West that the following staff have been recruited: a medical scientist (microbiology), a staff midwife, a senior physiotherapist, a radiographer, a Nursing and Midwifery Director of Nursing and Assistant, and a Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Nurse Manager. Staff currently being actively recruited include a physiotherapist-in-charge, a medical scientist, seven clerical officers, six staff midwives, 14 clinical nurse managers, two advanced nurse practitioners and one clinical midwife specialist.
In relation to the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar, an approval process is underway for six additional staff, namely a multi-task attendant, a clinical nurse manager, a healthcare assistant and two staff nurses.
Cllr Michael Kilcoyne, who sought information on recruitment levels, commented that the process for filling posts seemed to be slow enough, adding: “This was a major announcement regarding the recruitment ban being lifted and it being said that everybody was going to get a job in the health services.”
Ms Cosgrove replied: “The recruitment process is slow as it involves advertising, getting garda clearance and vetting of candidates and then holding interviews. However, there are a number of posts in progress and also a number were also filled between January and July as in some cases there is urgent need."
Regional Executive Officer Tony Canavan clarified that he did not think the announcement stated that all posts would be filled but that they would be dealt with on a regional scenario.
“Not every post will be filled but a decision on every post will be taken within the region. I think we have progressed by and large since January 1 in terms of recruiting, also there are new posts in the service plan in the system now and the number strategy gives us a fixed head count to work within.”
