Councillor says signage should reflect bad condition of road
Cllr Peter Flynn
A Westport councillor has said that the condition of a road between Leenane and Delphi is so bad that the sign on it that reads 'Welcome to Mayo' should be replaced with one that says 'God help you in Mayo'.
Cllr Peter Flynn raised the matter at the June meeting of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District, noting: “Coming in from Leenane where you take the turn off to Delphi and Doolough, a sign says 'Welcome to Mayo[, but should say 'God help you in Mayo' because the surface for the next five or six kilometres there is so bad, it’s like going up a hill.
"This is one of the main arteries for visitors coming into our county and the camber is gone in on both sides and completely dropped in places. It needs significant investment.”
The Fine Gael councillor requested an update from council management about the road for the next meeting in September.
