Mayo Sports Partnership (MSP), organisers of the Mayo.ie Western People Women’s Mini Marathon, continues to go from strength to strength, with people of all ages, shapes and sizes engaging in physical activity.
MSP aims to increase participation in all sports and to ensure local resources and facilities are used to the best effect. It promotes recreational sport to all members of society and is also involved in facilitating and co-ordinating several sporting projects and programmes across Mayo aimed at getting people active. It aims to inform, educate and implement.
One such initiative is the Splash and Dash event for local schools. At the start of 2024, MSP partnered with Triathlon Ireland once again to launch Tri Heroes within schools across Mayo.
The initiative created by Triathlon Ireland aims to introduce primary and secondary school pupils of all ages and abilities to the disciplines of cycling, running, and where facilities allow.
The much-anticipated finale took place on Tuesday, March 19, as MSP hosted the Splash and Dash end event at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar.
A total of 14 schools and 600 enthusiastic students participated in a thrilling 50m swim and 1.25km run event, showcasing their newfound skills and strength.
MSP is extremely grateful that it was allocated €425,000 as part of €30 million of core funding to national governing bodies of sport and the 29 local sports partnerships on March 21 last.
May will see the final committee meeting of the current MSP committee. Thanks to all the members for their support over the past five years.
