Mayo club managers step down from their roles

The Ballina manager has departed after six years in charge.

After winning three senior titles with Ballina Stephenites, manager Niall Heffernan has confirmed he is stepping down from the role.

Heffernan won three county championships in-a-row between 2023 and 2025, and departs after six years in charge of the north Mayo club.

In a statement on social media, Ballina Stephenites said: “Ballina Stephenites GAA would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Niall and his entire management team for their incredible commitment, dedication and service to our club.

"What a journey it has been! Four County Senior Championship Final appearances, an historic three County Senior titles in a row and two Senior League titles.

"An incredible record and memories that will live long in the hearts of everyone associated with Ballina Stephenites. But for all the trophies and success, Niall's contribution to our club goes far beyond what was achieved on the football field.

"There have been great days, tough days, unforgettable victories and plenty of challenges along the way. Through it all, Niall and his management team have shown tremendous loyalty, dedication and belief in the players and in Ballina Stephenites. We also recognise the countless hours, evenings and weekends that go into managing a senior football team. To Niall's family and the families of everyone involved in his management team, a sincere thank you for the sacrifices, patience and support over the past six years.

"Niall, you and your team have given us moments we will never forget. The joy of those County Final victories, the pride of making history with three in a row and the memories shared by players, families and supporters will always hold a special place in our club's history.

"You leave behind much more than silverware. You leave behind friendships, unforgettable memories, high standards and a legacy that will be part of Ballina Stephenites for many years to come.

"On behalf of our players, club officers, members and supporters, thank you, Niall, and thank you to every member of your management team. We are immensely grateful for everything you have given to our club and wish you all the very best in the future. You have done yourselves, your families and Ballina Stephenites proud.”

This follows Breaffy manager Seán Deane stepping down from his role, having been in charge since 2024.

During his time in charge, Breaffy got to two championship semi-finals, and also won a Division One final.
