Well-known Mayo man speaks about ongoing battle with rare condition
Well-known local man Tony Mulligan, Sandyhill, Charlestown appeared on the very popular 'Welcome to My World' Sunday morning programme hosted by Tommy Marren on Midwest Radio recently. Tony spoke candidly and honestly about living with a rare brain tumour and how it impacts on his every day life.
He talked to Tommy about how the condition impinges on his daily life and and was open and frank about how he continues to battle through and live life in the best way he knows how. Tony is married to Edel and they have twin boys and her support and that of his family and friends have sustained him through the dark hours and provided him with the strength and determination to forge ahead and try to keep life as normal as he possibly can while living with the tumour.
He has been through some tough times but the strength of his personality and his sheer determination to get the maximum out of life was a tonic to listen to as he embraces each day with the courage and optimism and continues to tackle the daily grind and all that life throws at him with refreshing determination and grit.
Tony was a very prominent member of the Charlestown Sarsfields GAA Club, winning a county senior title in 2009 and was a very talented baller who reached some great heights on the playing fields. He was a gifted lad with a terrific pair of hands who had a real eye for a score and was a popular presence in and around the dressing room with his humour and infectious wit always on display through good times and bad.
He remains a much liked and admired figure around the park and community at large and his story was heart-warming and inspiring to say the least and touched a chord with so many in all walks and cohorts of life.
