Multiple Mayo road closures announced as EirGrid's 110kV project continues
The upcoming closures are to facilitate cable duct laying for the EirGrid project.
Mayo County Council has announced plans for three temporary road closures in Ballina and Charlestown to facilitate cable duct laying works as part of the ongoing EirGrid North Connacht 110kV Project.
The closures will affect the N59 Crossmolina Road, Sweeney’s Lane in Ballina, as well as the N5/N17 Northern Ramp in Charlestown.
Diversion routes will be in place, and local access to properties within the closure areas will be provided.
The N59 Crossmolina Road will be closed for five days from to , between and each night.
The closure will apply to the section of road between the N59 Gurteen Roundabout and the L1132 at Fenian Row.
Separate diversion routes will be in place for local traffic and HGVs.
Eastbound local traffic travelling towards Ballina will be diverted from Gurteens Road through McDermott Street, past Mercy Road and on to Lord Edward Street, where the diversion rejoins the N59.
Westbound local traffic will travel from Lord Edward Street on the N59 through Fenian Row and back towards Gurteens Road.
HGV traffic in both directions will be diverted via Gurteens Road, Sli Ectra and Killala Road, before rejoining the N59/N26.

The closure will apply between its junction with the N59 Crossmolina Road and the L5113 at Commons.
Traffic will be diverted via the L5113 Primrose Hill, the N26 along Kevin Barry Street and the N59 at Lord Edward Street.

The closure will apply between its junction with the N5 Charlestown Bypass and the N17 roundabout.
Traffic will be diverted via the L5339 along Lavy More Road, the L1331, Charlestown and the N17.
