There is disappointment and sadness following the closure of two popular Mayo restaurants.

There is disappointment and sadness following the closure of a popular Castlebar restaurant.

Mill Lane, which was located just off the main street, closed its doors last week.

"It is with deep regret that we announce the closure of Mill Lane.

"A sincere thanks to all the staff who have helped make Mill Lane what it is today.

"And to you, our loyal customers, thank you for all your support and more importantly, the laughter,” said the restaurant’s owners in a post on social media.

Helmed by popular local man Paudy O’Malley, the restaurant quickly became a mainstay in the dining scene in the county town and its closure came as a shock.

There were many online tributes to the quality of the food and the warm welcome offered by Paudy and his team.

Popular Ballinrobe bar and restaurant Carney’s also made the decision to shut its doors.

“After long talks, we have decided we will not be reopening Carney's Bar,” the owners stated on social media.

The post also paid tribute to everyone who contributed to the bar, both as staff and customers.
