His funeral will arrive at St Tiernan's Church, Crossmolina, on Wednesday June for Mass of the Angels at 1pm, with burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery.

Tributes have been paid to a young child who was killed after being struck by a car near Ballina in Co Mayo on Sunday.

The community of Crossmolina is mourning the loss of Cian Rowland, of Deerpark, Crossmolina, Ballina, who passed away on Sunday at the age of six.

His death was described by local Councillor Annie May Reape as "a dreadful tragedy and is every parent’s worst nightmare’’.

Local GAA club, Crossmolina Deel Rovers, paid tribute to Cian and extended their sympathies to his family.

“Crossmolina Deel Rovers would like to offer our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Cian Rowland, especially Noal, Leona, Norah, Micheál, Sinéad, the extended Riwkabd and Lavelle families,” a post on the club’s Instagram account read.

“Rest in peace with the Angels. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis."

Cian was the son of Noel and Leona, and brother to Norah, Micheál, and Sinéad. In an emotional tribute, his family described him as their "beautiful little Boyeen’’.

He will repose at Hineys Funeral Home, Crossmolina, on Tuesday from 5pm until 8pm.

Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward. Road users and pedestrians with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between 10:40am and 11:40am on Sunday are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
