Tributes paid to a 'real gentleman' of Mayo following recent passing

May he rest in peace.

On behalf of Mayo ICMSA, it was with profound regret that we noted the passing of our friend and colleague, Tommy Joe Nally, on 11th March 2026.

Tommy Joe was synonymous with ICMSA in Mayo and served with distinction as Chairperson of the ICMSA Sheep Committee Chairperson, while representing the county on the National Council for many years.

Tommy Joe was of that generation that had a deep and unswerving commitment to their communities and most specifically to the farm families within, that they knew were the social, economic, sporting and cultural ‘backbones’ of their districts.

Tommy Joe had both that commitment and a huge practical knowledge of farming that he put at the disposal of his many friends within ICMSA and, through them, to the wider membership.

He did all this and made this enormous contribution while providing a perfect example of how a real gentleman behaves and holds himself.

We won’t see his likes again, and ICMSA extends its deepest sympathy to his wife, Mary, and to his family.
