Thoughtless vandals target Croagh Patrick defibrillator unit

The vital piece of life-saving equipment was destroyed.
Repairs are to be carried out in the coming weeks after a defibrillator unit at the top of Croagh Patrick was targeted by vandals.
Gardaí in Westport are investigating the incident which occurred the weekend before last A large rock was used to break open the door of the emergency unit and the defibrillator was taken out and the pads were removed.
It is now badly water damaged but none of the equipment was taken.
Founder of Eco Powered Cabinets Darren Forde, who produced and installed three units on the mountain in 2022, said: "It's really sickening that a piece of life-saving equipment would be damaged in this way. These vandals broke all 24 hinges to remove the door, which was left unlocked." It is the second time one of the solar-powered boxes has been damaged in the county.
