Temperatures set to plummet to -3 in parts of Mayo

Temperatures are set to fall as low as -3C in parts of Mayo on Tuesday night as the cold snap continues to bite.

Met Éireann said conditions will be dry overnight but it will still remain very cold as skies clear and easterly winds veer northeasterly.

Temperatures are expected to range from as low as -3 to 1C with widespread frost and some icy patches expected.

The coldest part of the county according to the forecaster will be in the wider Charlestown area where temperatures will plummet to -3.

Met Éireann said there be slightly milder conditions in Castlebar (-1C), Belcarra (-2C) and Belmullet (1C).

Temperatures will climb during daylight hours on Wednesday with temperatures ranging from 3C to 6C during the late morning and afternoon.

On Wednesday night, the Connacht region will experience temperatures ranging from -2C to 1C with frost and ice in some of the coldest areas.

It will remain quite cold but mostly dry on Thursday with highest temperatures of 4C to 8C.

The best of the sunshine is expected in the west with cloudy conditions over many parts of the country.

Temperatures are expected to fall to as low as -2 in some parts of Connacht with the highest temperatures climbing up to 2C.
