Popular English comedian and actor Steve Coogan, who has strong West of Ireland roots through his Mayo mother, appeared on last Friday's Late Late Show.

During his chat with host Patrick Kielty, Coogan brought up his Martin Brennan character from the Alan Partridge series.

Speaking about the character, Coogan said: "You have to sort of play with fire sometimes to get the right sort of laugh.

"I grew up with a lot of people like Martin Brennan. My mother said to not make him from Mayo so I made him from Sligo!"
