'Salmon' street art could enhance Ballina location

Ballina is known as Ireland's Salmon Capital.
A councillor has called for Mayo Co Council to install panels featuring street art to enhance the Market Square area of Ballina.
Cllr Annie-May Reape called for the installation of panelling between the car park and public realm area at Market Square. She said the feature should include street art further highlighting Ballina's identity as Ireland's Salmon Capital.
Executive architect Emmet O’Donnell said he welcomed the proposal which may be possible to implement on a trial basis.
“Subject to cost and funding being available, it may be possible to trial the impact of screening the carpark from the plaza with moveable hedge-planters in order to gauge its longer term effect on the public realm,” said Mr O’Donnell.
