A member of Mayo Co Council has extended congratulations to the Solas Centre in Eachléim, Belmullet, on winning the Mayo Meitheal of the Year Award.

Cllr Gerry Coyle told last week's meeting of Westport-Belmullet Municipal District that it was the second time in the past decade that the award had come to the Erris village.

"I ask that we have a Municipal District meeting in the Solas building in Eachleim again very soon to acknowledge the win. I wish to congratulate John Gallagher and all his staff there. It is a wonderful building and the US Ambassador during her recent visit said it was a most impressive amenity.”

Cathaoirleach Cllr Sean Carey said the centre and committee did “Trojan work and were well deserving of this award”, adding: “It’s a great attraction for the area and a lot of tourists are coming to Belmullet because of it and staying around the area and seeing the benefits.”
