Planning permission has been granted for another padel facility in Mayo.

Last month, Mayo County Council gave the green light to Connacht rugby star Jack Carty for the development of four padel courts in Ballina.

The courts will be located at the IDA Industrial Estate in Bunree.

Now the local authority has approved planning for Padel Sports 100 Ltd to construct three modular padel tennis courts at the Westport Country Lodge Hotel.

The courts will be installed on a section of the hotel’s car park and will feature artificial grass surfaces, four metre fencing around each court and six metre LED lighting.

Council planners had sought further information on the loss of car parking space at the site with the hotel stating that it currently provides 188 parking spaces, seven staff spaces, and two designated disabled parking bays.

The padel project will result in the loss of 58 spaces, reducing the overall capacity to 130, while all staff and disabled parking will be maintained.

The hotel also committed to future plans that would see the installation of a sheltered bicycle parking area with 15 spaces.

The sport is proving hugely popular and Padel Sports 100 Limited has also submitted a separate application to install three modular padel tennis courts at Claremorris Tennis Club.

Mayo County Council is set to rule on this proposal at the end of April
