Passing of dedicated community figure

The late Maureen Timlin was a leading light in her community and her passing will leave a major void.

Warm tributes have been paid to a Mayo woman whose ‘passion and dedication’ to her community was boundless.

Maureen Timlin, of Abbeyview, Crossmolina, passed away on March 30.

A talented former member of the production department of the Western People, Maureen was a leading figure in community life in Crossmolina.

“Maureen was a much-valued director and Chairperson for our community organisation. She devoted endless energy, enthusiasm and knowledge to every aspect of her voluntary work. Her passion and dedication will be greatly missed by the entire Crossmolina community,” said Crossmolina Community Council in its tribute to Maureen.

The Crossmolina Festival Group said Maureen will be hugely missed by all who knew her.

“Maureen will be remembered as a warm, generous person whose dedication to the community knew no bounds. She was part of our Dramarama event last Summer and was active in the festival going back as far as 2006. She offered her time, energy, and heart and embodied the very essence of community spirit.

Her kindness, enthusiasm and unwavering commitment benefited the community for many years, her presence will be missed but her legacy will live on in the memories and community work she left behind. Her passing leaves a void but her spirit will continue to inspire all of us that had the privilege of knowing her.” There were scores of online tributes to Maureen following the news of her passing.

“Maureen’s generosity of spirit, her commitment to community, and her bright positive outlook on life was an inspiration to all,” stated one.

“Maureen was a wonderful lady whose zest for life was always so embracing; her participation in community life over the years is an inspiration to all and her. Her radiant smile and her generosity of spirit will never be forgotten,” read another.

Maureen is sadly missed by her loving husband Martin, her family Bryanna, Jamie and Sinéad, son-in-law Charlie, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, local communities and friends.

Requiem Mass took place at St Tiernan’s Church Crossmolina on Thursday.
