New podcast on missing Mayo woman
Sandra Collins has been missing for over 25 years.
The unexplained disappearance of a Mayo woman more than 25 years ago is the subject of a new podcast and YouTube documentary series being released today (Tuesday).
The first three episodes of from CrimeWorld.com (formerly the ) charts and explores the investigation into what happened to Sandra Collins, who disappeared from Killala on December 4, 2000.
Sandra, who was 28 at the time, was last seen in a local takeaway shortly after 11pm. The next day her aunt raised the alarm, sparking a massive manhunt, both on land and sea, but apart from a fleece jacket that turned up five days after she disappeared, no sign of Sandra has ever been found since.
The Collins family have fought hard to keep Sandra’s case in the limelight more than a quarter of a century on.
The new podcast, with CrimeWorld’s Nicola Tallant, scrutinises the work done by the gardaí and follows up on all the rumours and facts associated with the case.
Using never before heard recordings of Sandra, as well as in-depth interviews with her siblings, neighbours, local politicians and the detective who devoted 16 years of his career to trying to find her, this podcast is the definitive account of who she was, the events that led to her vanishing, and the ongoing affects it has had on those who knew and loved her.
It also celebrates a rural based family, who have remained resolute and loving despite extraordinary misfortune. The podcast explains why her family and others believe that the key to where she is now lies in Killala, where the Collins family believe secrets are still being kept.
