The chief of the Ballyhaunis Fire Station, Enda Caulfield, has welcomed the allocation of €3 million for the construction of a new fire station in the town.
The Government last week announced the investment to replace Ballyhaunis fire station, which is currently located on Clare Street, adjacent to the library.
“The new building will be a two-bay fire station, whereas our current station is a one bay,” Enda explained. “There will also be changing facilities for male and female firefighters in the new building as well as extra capacity for equipment storage.”
Enda expects the construction process will take several years.
“They’ve to acquire a site [and] then there’s tendering and construction,” he explained.
