Mayo's blue flag beaches revealed
Keem Beach on Achill Island is among the 12 Mayo beaches to receive Blue Flag awards.
Mayo has secured 12 Blue Flag beach awards.
The Mayo beaches which have won the environmental award are Bertra , Murrisk ,Clare Island, Mulranny , Old Head, Dooega , Dugort , Keel, and Keem, Elly Bay, Mullaghroe and Ross Beach.
Just over the border in Co Sligo, there was also a Blue Flag for Enniscrone.
A number of beaches have also secured The Green Coast Award.
It recognises beaches for their clean environment, excellent water quality and natural beauty. Green Coast Award sites are exceptional places to visit and enjoy our rich coastal heritage and diversity.
Nine Green Coast Awards were won in Mayo with prizes for Carrowniskey and Cross in Louisburgh, Cross beach, Rinroe, Srah Termon, and Portacloy in Erris, Tranaun on Inishturk and Golden Strand, Achill.
Enniscrone beach also picked up a Green Coast Award.
