Met Éireann say there will be sustained strong and gusty westerly winds veering northwesterly, coupled with large coastal waves.

Met Éireann has advised that a Status Yellow Wind warning will be in place for Mayo during the weekend before Christmas.

The weather warning will be in place from 3am on Saturday (December 21) until 2pm on Sunday (December 22).

Met Éireann say there will be sustained strong and gusty westerly winds veering northwesterly, coupled with large coastal waves. Winds will peak on Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Potential impacts include wave overtopping, difficult travelling conditions - especially near the coast - and some fallen trees.

Clare, Galway, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are also included in the wind warning.
