Mayo motorist tests positive for drugs after overtaking on hard shoulder
Mayo Roads Policing stated that they continue to proactively target dangerous and illegal driving to keep our communities safe.
Mayo Roads Policing Unit carried out speed checks on the N17 as part of their Bank Holiday Road Safety Campaign.
They observed a vehicle driving on the hard shoulder at a speed to "undertake" (pass on the left) another vehicle that was driving within the speed limit - this is an illegal and dangerous manoeuvre to other road users.
Roads policing stopped the vehicle:
- A roadside oral fluid drug test was carried out, which indicated the presence of cocaine.
- The driver was arrested, and the vehicle was seized.
- The driver provided a blood sample for analysis by the Medical Bureau of Road Safety.
Mayo Roads Policing stated that they continue to proactively target dangerous and illegal driving to keep our communities safe.
