A Mayo-based carer has been announced as a regional winner of the Comfort Keepers Carer of the Year Awards 2026.

Vanessa McNicholas received the award for her dedication and consistent high standards in caring. In the storied halls of Croke Park, and attended by family, friends, and colleagues, Vanessa was honoured at a special Comfort Keepers event to celebrate the 2026 Regional Carer of the Year Winners – she was chosen as one of 18 finalists from around the country.

Vanessa McNicholas, Regional Winner of the Comfort Keepers Carer of the Year Awards 2006, said:

“I made the decision to go straight from secondary school into healthcare, and I was never sure if it was the right choice but winning this has made me feel more secure that I made the right decision. I've always wanted to work in healthcare, I love caring for people, and it feels great seeing my dedication hasn't gone unnoticed.”
