The Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM), the country’s preeminent classical music academy, has welcomed the appointment of Ballyhaunis native Professor Denise Neary as president-elect of the Society for Musicology in Ireland for the 2027–2030 term.
Denise Neary is currently the Doctoral Studies Coordinator for the Doctor in Music Performance programme at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, having previously been Senior Lecturer in Music at Canterbury Christ Church University, UK.
From Culnaclecha, seven kilometres from Ballyhaunis out the Logboy road, Denise is responsible for the guidance and academic supervision of doctoral students at RIAM where she also delivers modules in research methods and musicology. She organises the guest lecture series at the RIAM, featuring eminent international scholars and musicologists.
Another Ballyhaunis native, Maria McGarry, is a professor on the keyboard faculty at RIAM.
