Incredible support shown to brave and remarkable baby Keelan
Keelan Broderick has fought harder than most could imagine since he was born in February of this year
A fundraiser to support a Mayo family whose remarkable baby son Keelan has already overcome life-threatening odds in the first few months of his life has received incredible backing far and wide with over €50,000 raised.
According to the fundraiser set up by his auntie Laura to support his parents Danny and Anna Broderick, Keelan arrived 5 weeks early and with life-threatening complications last February and at five days old, was rushed for life-saving, high-risk surgery.
Following this, Keelan spent 5 weeks in ICU and faced continuous challenges that required multiple medical interventions to keep him alive.
However, Keelan has kept fighting, facing constant challenges with incredible strength, resilience and determination, despite having to spend 115 days in Crumlin Hospital, 37 of which were in the ICU.
Keelan spent a short time at home and has now returned to Crumlin where he has received further surgery and treatment, requiring 24/7 care from his mum and dad. Keelan will require further treatment as he gets older and starts to grow up.
Auntie Laura has appealed for support for Keelan, Danny and Anna as they continue to bravely fight this battle.
“The reality is that caring for a medically complex child comes with huge financial implications,” she said.
“We are fundraising to help cover the costs associated with Keelan’s medical care, the additional treatments, therapies, specialist appointments, equipment, nutritional needs, travel and other expenses that come with his ongoing journey.”
“His parents want to be able to say yes to opportunities that could help Keelan without having to worry about whether they can afford them.”
“Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference.”
The kindness and support has come in force with over 1,200 people having donated to the fundraiser thus far. Over €51,000 has been raised with many kind messages of support also shared to the Broderick’s.
“They never wanted this, but I’ve witnessed what they’re going through. We can’t take away Keelan’s pain or change what he has been through or what they will be going through as a family, but together we can help give his mam and dad some reassurance that, whatever comes next, they won t have to face it completely alone,” said Laura.
“Keelan has fought harder in his short life than most of us could ever imagine. Now we want to fight for his future too.”
