HSE management behaviour branded 'disgraceful'

Cllr Declan Bree has described HSE’s management's behaviour as ‘disgraceful’ at a recent meeting of the Regional Health Forum West.
A Sligo councillor has described HSE’s management's behaviour as ‘disgraceful’ at a recent meeting of the Regional Health Forum West.
The Forum met for the first time since November, which Cllr Declan Bree heavily criticised. It did not take place due to trade union Fórsa taking industrial action against the HSE in frustration over a managerial recruitment freeze. Fórsa organised a work-to-rule action which affected all clerical and administrative staff in the HSE. This meant that they would not engage with the Forum.
Cllr Bree believes that the Forum was too important not go ahead despite the strike action. He approached chairperson of the Forum, Cllr Donagh Killilea to request that the Executive of the Forum seek a derogation to allow it to commence.
“As far as I am concerned the behaviour of the Executive of the HSE was disgraceful and outrageous,” Cllr Bree said. “As far back as early December, chairman, you asked HSE management to submit a request to the union for a derogation to allow Forum meetings to continue. Management totally ignored your requests and refused to submit a request. They treated you and all of us elected representatives with contempt.”
Saolta Health Care CEO Tony Canavan rejected Cllr Bree’s comments saying that management did not behave 'disgracefully'.
