'Encouraging news' - progress made on restoring Mayo bus stop

Minister of State Alan Dillon TD has welcomed confirmation from Citylink that it has formally applied to the National Transport Authority (NTA) for the reinstatement of the Straide bus stop on the new 430 Ballina–Galway service.
Minister Dillon said he has been actively pursuing the issue with Citylink and the NTA after receiving significant concerns from residents in the Straide area after the Bus Eireann Route 52 was ceased earlier this year.
“Since the new Citylink 430 service commenced, I have been contacted by many residents in Straide who were extremely disappointed to see their long established bus stop removed from the route,” Minister Dillon said.
“This was particularly frustrating given that a newly installed bus shelter and stop infrastructure are already in place and ready for use. It makes no sense for a major inter urban service to pass through Straide without serving a fully equipped stop.”
Minister Dillon said he raised these concerns directly with Citylink, seeking clarity on the decision and urging the company to restore the stop as a matter of priority.
Citylink has now confirmed to Minister Dillon that it has applied to the NTA this week for the addition of the Straide stop to the 430 licence.
Minister Dillon welcomed this progress, describing it as a positive step for the community.
“This is very encouraging news for residents in Straide who rely on this service for work, education, medical appointments and daily travel,” he said.
“I want to acknowledge Citylink’s engagement on this matter and their willingness to respond to local concerns. I understand that the licence approval will take a few weeks.”
He added that he will continue to monitor the process closely until the stop is formally approved and reinstated.
