Popular postman of Mayo communities retires after 20 years of dedicated service

After 20 years of dedicated service to the communities of Newport and Glenhest, popular local postman Timmy Kennedy has officially retired from An Post.

After 20 years of dedicated service to the communities of Newport and Glenhest, popular local postman Timmy Kennedy has officially retired from An Post.

Originally from Trim, Co. Meath, Timmy transferred west in the early 2000s to take over the Newport postal route and quickly became a familiar and friendly face to households throughout the area. Rain, hail or shine, he provided a reliable service and built strong connections with the people he met on his daily rounds.

A passionate GAA supporter, Timmy never missed an opportunity to remind colleagues of Meath's footballing exploits and was always ready with a bit of good-natured banter. With Meath set to face Mayo in Castlebar this Saturday for a place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals, there will be plenty wondering if "Trim Tim" will have the last laugh once again.

Colleagues and friends recently gathered to mark his retirement and recognise his years of commitment and service. Timmy was presented with the Cuchulainn Trophy in appreciation of his outstanding contribution to An Post and the communities he served so well.

Everyone wishes Timmy a long, healthy and enjoyable retirement and thanks him for two decades of sterling service to Newport, Glenhest and the surrounding areas.
