Ballina-based councillor Mark Duffy has won election to Seanad Éireann.
Cllr Duffy was one of three Fine Gael candidates to win seats from the 11-seat Labour Panel. He was elected on the 13th count this morning (Sunday).
First elected to Mayo County Council as an Independent in 2019, Cllr Duffy retained his seat in last year's local elections before announcing that he was joining Fine Gael. He contested the general election for the party in November, narrowly missing out on one of the five Dáil seats in Mayo.
Senator Duffy will now be replaced on Mayo County Council through a co-option process.
