Defibrillator unit restored in busy Mayo area following vandalism

The defibrillator on the summit is now fully operational.
The defibrillator unit on the summit of Croagh Patrick has been repaired and reinstalled thanks to a huge community effort.
Earlier this month, one of the three defibrillator units installed on the Holy Mountain in 2022 was vandalised. A large rock was used to break open the emergency unit door, the defibrillator was removed and the pads were removed.
Hundreds of locals offered their services following the shocking act of vandalism. Over the weekend, volunteers rallied alongside Mayo Mountain Rescue and Mayo Civil Defence to climb the mountain and restore the damaged equipment.
The defibrillator on the summit is now fully operational.
Valued at approximately €4,000, the defibrillator has been used multiple times to help save lives. Gardaí in Westport continue to investigate the incident and are appealing to people who may have information to come forward.
