Ballyhaunis households have been getting their postal deliveries later on weekdays this week as An Post completed the closure of its Ballyhaunis sorting office and its staff moved to the company’s Castlerea mail centre.
Mail has been arriving in late morning and early afternoon at some homes that had been used to getting deliveries before 10am as schedules have been adjusted to allow Ballyhaunis-based postal workers to travel to Castlerea to collect the post.
The closure of the Ballyhaunis sorting office – which brings to an end the company’s presence in the town since the founding of the State – was fought by local businesses and politicians.
