Cllrs to decide on Aras an Chontae works proposal

A proposal to carry out works on the annex building of the local authority's HQ is to come before councillors.

Progress is being made on a number of projects in Castlebar including a proposal to change the building facade of the Annex building at Aras an Chontae.

The proposal will include an alteration of the façade from metal cladding to a rendered and painted finish at the county council headquarters.

The matter was the subject of a Part 8 consultation process with no public submissions lodged.

Castlebar councillors will rule on the project at their monthly meeting on Wednesday. No costings have been detailed yet.

Meanwhile, a sum of €30,000 has been approved to expand the car park at the Lough Lannagh Leisure Centre car park. The council say the project is to meet growing demand and support new sports facilities. A detailed design is in progress.

A sum €47,500 approved to progress the preparatory and design phase for transforming the former swimming pool in Castlebar into a modern, inclusive Community Hub.

Castlebar Celtic FC has pushed for the project as additional facilities are required to cater for their large underage player base.

Works are progessing to restore the old Order of Malta HQ. A contractor is on site with the development expected to be completed by October next year.

A business case and supporting documentation to develop a Cultural Innovation Hub in Tourmakeady is progressing and nearing completion.

An extension of time was approved by the Department to April 2026
