Chinese Ambassador visits Mayo
The Ambassador was welcomed to the county
Mayo County Council welcomed the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Ireland, H.E. Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan to Mayo.
The two-day visit aimed to strength economic, cultural and tourism ties between Mayo and China.
The Ambassador was officially welcomed to Áras an Chontae by Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr. John Caulfield, and Chief Executive Kevin Kelly, together with representatives from the Local Authority.
During discussions, both parties explored opportunities to enhance collaboration in areas including economic development, tourism promotion, cultural exchange, education and investment. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase Mayo's strengths as a vibrant region for business, innovation, heritage and international partnership.
Over the course of the two-day itinerary, Ambassador Zhao visited a number of locations across the county, gaining first-hand insight into Mayo's rich cultural heritage, world-class tourism offering, thriving communities and economic potential. The programme highlighted the county's unique blend of natural beauty, enterprise, innovation and cultural assets.
Cathaoirleach Cllr. John Caulfield said: "We were honoured to welcome Ambassador Zhao to Mayo and to showcase all that our county has to offer. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen connections and explore areas of mutual interest that can support future collaboration between Mayo and China."
Chief Executive Kevin Kelly added: "Mayo has a strong international outlook and values opportunities to foster relationships that encourage economic growth, cultural understanding and tourism development. We were pleased to share Mayo's ambitions and achievements with Ambassador Zhao during his visit."
